You’re working under the assumption that everything humans do isn’t natural. Doesn’t everything we do at least originate from nature?

Does it? Does African countries selling their land to be the modern world trash land originate from nature, Mr. Barton? Does starving children originate from nature, while we can feed the world with what we throw away? Does covering the land with concrete originate from nature? Or cutting down rainforests just because we found gold, originate from nature? Gold that is meaningful to us in no on other way than to sit somewhere in a bank? Weapons? Wars? Assassins? Do they originate from nature too?

image

See, in a way, yes it does. Starving children? There are animals that starve all the time in the wild, and you don’t see other animals helping them. Covering the land is a different way of marking territory to sustain the population, albeit one that I don’t agree with and one that’s significantly more extreme than the usual urinating on a tree. Wanting shiny things for ourselves is no different than a magpie seeking its own. Weapons are tools, and chimps use tools. There have been battles seen between packs of different animals over territory, just as our wars.

You’re arguing that many things humans do are unnatural.

Adjustment // Open RP

we-got-all-the-toys:

The mug pressed and cradled between her hands, and all she could think about was the chip in the opening of the powder blue ceramic holder.  At least, that was what she allowed herself to focus on.  Her eyes were narrowed just slightly, lips pursed thoughtfully as she focused on the crack in the mug intensely.  Truthfully, it wasn’t a very interesting mug, and the chip could have happened a number of ways, but Natasha wanted to pull herself away from thinking.

She was shaken, and she hated to admit it.  It was new to her, the events that she had gone through not all that long ago, and she was still adjusting - at least, internally.  On the outside, she was the same as ever: professional, with a witty remark now and then, and a good dash of sass.  Inside, she was on the look out in case aliens decided to attack again - or if she had to throw down with gods and other absurdities that she didn’t care much for.  Of course, other mortals were the real bad guys.  She was aware of this.

Sighing softly, her shoulders fell.  And, although she took note of the bell ringing to admit another guest into the cafe, her eyes didn’t wonder to see who it was this time; not until the chair across from her was pulled out and a body sat down.

Quirking her brow, Natasha looked the patron over.  ”Can I help you?”

image

A small smile played at Clint’s lips. “Hello, Tasha.” He said, waving over a waiter and ordering his own cup of coffee. He could tell she was upset; knowing what she was feeling was something that came easily to him, since they’d gone through so much together.

Knowing what she was thinking, however, was a whole other story.

“What’s on your mind?” He asked, thanking the server when he brought the coffee. While he waited for an answer, he stirred in sugar and creamer.

He grinned widely at her laughter. “Yeah, I’m stationed in Stark Tower. S.H.I.E.L.D.’s got a base here in Manhattan, but ever since this Avengers thing they’ve kept me at Stark’s instead of base.”

image

“I heard Stark asked for you to be around, but didn’t know you were arriving so soon. Woulda met you at the airport or whatever.” He leaned his elbows on the table, looking away from Jane and at the people walking by. All the workers who commuted into the city were on their way to the subway now, causing the sidewalks to become a writhing mass of suits and professional dress. Even though most workers had left, their office buildings still shone brightly, creating strange, man-made constellations.

“Yeah, I got in early this afternoon. They’ve got me at a hotel a few blocks away,” she said, gesturing over her shoulder. “I guess Tony Stark offered me some lab space, though - my equipment should be arriving tomorrow morning, actually.”

Jane shook her head, a vague smile on her face. “It’s kind of crazy, all of this,” she admitted sheepishly. “I didn’t think my life could be any crazier after…” She trailed off, shrugging her shoulders and giving Clint a look that read ‘After meeting Thor’ - a subject still difficult to talk about these days. “And yet, here I am, being dragged to New York for god knows what reason at the request of Tony Stark. It’s crazy!” she laughed.

image

“That’s great. I guess I’ll be seeing you around the tower quite often then, eh?” He signaled to the waiter and asked for a small glass of water. He wasn’t particularly hungry, having eaten back at the Tower just a half hour earlier, but he definitely was thirsty.

“Yeah…life has a way of completely surprising you, even if you think it’s already at its craziest.” He fiddled with the sugars and sweeteners in their plastic box, arranging them and rearranging them, just giving his hands something to do.

I can think of a few mistakes nature made. You don’t see dodo birds around much any more.

Evolution happens over billions of years, not a matter of decades, Courtemanche. Every freshman highschool student in biology knows that.

And why is that Mr. Barton. Do you think an entire species just up and left because of nature, or because of us? I think that you are blaming wrong here.

image

Well forgive me, I skipped a few classes in highschool, maybe my information is wrong, but wasn’t it our involvement in nature’s course that caused so much trouble? Evolution is never wrong, nature’s only mistake is perhaps allowing us to live so long.

You’re working under the assumption that everything humans do isn’t natural. Doesn’t everything we do at least originate from nature?

A Balanced Breakfast

Clint tapped his foot on the floor, impatient as the elevator descended. His stomach growled angrily, seemingly completely empty since Clint hadn’t had dinner the night previous.

image

He stepped out into the kitchen and glanced around. State of the art cooking appliances were everywhere, but Clint didn’t really want anything that he really had to cook. He walked over to the coffee pot and poured himself a cup of joe, diluting it with some sugar.

Pepper just watched him, quietly drinking her own cup. Even if he had noticed her, he didn’t make any motion of it. It seemed there was only one thing on his mind. Not that she could blame him for it.

The two of them just stood in quiet for a while, just the clinking of his spoon to relieve the silence. Eventually, her inner hostess gave in. “Is there something I can help you with?”

image

image

Clint glanced over at her, and nodded a greeting. “‘Mornin’, Ms. Potts.” He took a long, deep gulp of coffee before continuing. “Nah, just getting some coffee. Don’t feel like eating anything complicated for breakfast today.”

As he spoke, he moved to the pantry to get some cereal and poured himself a large bowl of Frosted Flakes. After pouring enough milk to drown each piece, he hopped up on the counter and sat, dangling his feet as he ate.

“Semantics. Technically, Katniss is a girl.” He raised an eyebrow. “Again, two way street, kiddo.”

He raised an eyebrow at the strange combination. “Never heard of orange juice with cereal before.”

“Details,” Peter said teasingly, waving his hand dismissively. “Who needs ‘em?”

He frowned, dumping out his ruined breakfast and opting to go make himself toast instead. “I should…pay more attention next time.”

Clint chuckled, scraping the rest of his eggs off the plate and starting in on his bacon.

“Yeah. Next time make sure you grab the right carton. It’s the one with the cow on it. Not the orange.”

Evolution can make mistakes, Courtemanche.

Evolution…or me, Mr. Barton?

image

Because I assure you that nature does not make mistakes, infact, its due to the evolution that you are here today, or the occasional alien invasion has shaken your beliefs? Nevertheless, if Mr. Stark is afraid of a little competition, I don’t think he needs any more bodyguards, than he has now, after all, science is always bettered by competition.

I can think of a few mistakes nature made. You don’t see dodo birds around much any more.

Clint waited in the elevator as it descended, planning on taking a walk around the city for a bit. It was, oddly, somewhat claustrophobic, being constantly stuck in Stark Tower, even though it was a huge building. Once the elevator stopped at the ground floor, Clint glided past the secretarial desk and out into the city, immediately blending into the crowds of tourists and workers alike.

In passing a small, unremarkable cafe, a familiar face snagged his attention. He smirked, then entered the cafe and sat down across from the blonde woman.

“Dr. Foster.” he said. “Good to see you.”

The sky was a hazy sort of pink beyond the tall buildings. It wasn’t quite dark out, but it wasn’t light either. Street lights were beginning to flicker on, decorate lights outside of restaurants blinking into life. Stark Tower was the shining beacon amongst it all, though, staring proudly over the busy city.

With so many people passing by, it wasn’t a surprise that Jane didn’t see the figure approaching her until she heard her name. She was seated at a table out on the sidewalk, confined by a decorate metal railing allowing access only from within the cafe. Her eyes had been cast in the other direction, toward Stark Tower. Suddenly a man was sitting across from her, a cheeky but familiar smile on his face. Jane’s own face lit up and she nearly jumped out of her seat.

“Clint!” she said happily with a laugh of disbelief. She leaned back in her chair, taking in the man before her. “It’s been a long time,” she smiled widely. “I didn’t even know you were in New York.”

Jane had been to New York City on several occasions, but never for such a permanent stay. It had been strange, packing up her few belongings and leaving the old trailer behind Sal’s diner. It had been her home for nearly five years. She belonged in this world of sand and sky, and now it was being replaced by concrete and smog.

She couldn’t really complain, though. Finally, after years of pitching her research and imploring backers to listen to her, she had financial assistance from one of the most powerful organizations in the world - S.H.I.E.L.D. For the past two years she had been free to truly dive into her work, that pesky little thing called ‘income’ no longer holding her back. Her new knowledge of the universe had opened up so many possibilities and theories, and the means to explore all of them were now at her fingertips.

But the world was bigger than her little plot of land in the middle of the Nevada dessert. The world was shifting, the rules changing on them with each passing day. Questions about life beyond our planet were so commonplace that discussion about our world, our home, our energy, seemed suddenly mysterious.

An energy war of sorts had begun between heavyweight champion Tony Stark and innovator Alex Courtemanche. Jane wasn’t quite sure what use Stark had of an astrophysicist, but she had been informed quite urgently by SHIELD that he requested her presence in New York City for an undetermined length of time. A few conversations were had that made it clear that she should prep for the long haul - something big was happening, and it wasn’t something that would blow over quickly.

With SHIELD still behind her and promising her access to labs in the city, Jane accepted Tony Stark’s invitation. Two weeks later and the old diner she used as a lab was empty, everything relocated to the noisy, dirty city on the Atlantic.

Her cab pulled up to the hotel just off of Central Park in New York City’s Upper West Side. It was overwhelming. As soon as she finally reached her room, Jane dropped her bags to the floor and collapsed onto the ridiculously comfortable bed.

She didn’t have much in the way of personal belongings, and SHIELD had transported all of her equipment to a lab in town that she would get to visit in the morning. She decided that if she were to be expected to stay for so long, she may as well get comfortable, and spent the rest of the evening unpacking and adding personal touches to the room. The last thing she put in place was a shadowbox - inside was an old journal, flipped open to a page near the center. On that page was a sketch; squiggly lines and shaded spheres, forming something similar to a tree. She touched her fingers to the glass protecting the paper, and smiled sadly as she hung it on the wall above her bed.

The rumbling of her stomach had been growing louder over the past two hours and finally it could not be ignored. Daringly, Jane ventured out onto the busy city street and began to walk. She could see Stark Tower glowing in the distance, and she found herself moving toward it. She was amazed to find that she was only a ten minute walk from the tower, and found a small cafe just outside with a perfect view of the place. She ordered tea and a salad and sat down outside, watching as the rest of the lights flickered on across the top of the building, wondering what adventures lay inside for her.

Clint waited in the elevator as it descended, planning on taking a walk around the city for a bit. Stark’s certainly upset with you. He doesn’t take well to competition.

Is he now? Last time I checked he couldn’t remember my first name. Comes with ripe age I suppose.

Everything flows, Mr.Barton, new things will always come along. It’s simple evolution.

Evolution can make mistakes, Courtemanche.
